My PDP Feedback

My Game Design Document

My Game Design Document (draft with comments)

Finished Game Design Document

Evaluation Of My Feedback (PDP)

Some of the feedback I received on my PDP was that the grammar had to be better and mainly things like full stops since most of my writing was just one giant paragraph I implemented this throughout the whole document since this will make it look neater and more of a professional document. another piece of feedback was that the column at the end of my table should be removed and I did this since there was no need for it to be there and would only make it look unfinished. some more feedback was that more detail was need and that the sentence structure would need to be moved around so that it would make more sense I did this because again it makes it look more professional and I was very vague with what I had written in the boxes so it will be more understandable. I was also asked to find out the dates to certain events like dead lines and when we did it if it were possible I was able to get the dead lines however I was unable to find the dates of when we did them these were to be included so that there is a record of how long we did this.

Evaluation Of My Feedback (Game Design Document)

Some feedback I received on my game design document was that punctuation and that there was some missing and the lack of punctuation caused it not to make sense and all of the paragraphs were just one giant sentence so I fixed and added the punctuation so that the document would make sense and that the document would be more professional. another piece of feedback was that my "What Is The Game" section was to vague and didn't really say what the game was so I have edited it so that it is more informative about the game is like so people can understand it better. some more feedback was that some of the paragraphs could have been explained better than they were this because of stuff like typos and lack of punctuation so I have fixed these problems so that they are easy to understand and look more professional. also another piece of feedback I received was that when I mentioned that the enemies change colour it was not clear that the colour change was just cosmetic so I was told to include something like to have it make sense so I have done this since was not clear what the colour change did before. also my game design document was missing my story board and flowchart so I have added theses so that all other documents needed are added.

Game Pitch (D1)

My Game Pitch

with my game pitch I had my power point as a visual aid for people to read and look at the pictures use and I also had a speech to go with my power point which I used to cover anything which was not in the power point but also to go into more detail that the power point could not and a way to make this presentation better would be to try and mention every thing in the power point rather than what I thought was important and also try to put more detail into the power point so if someone is not understanding me they can read the board to maybe understand what I'm trying to get at.

Software For Communicating Effectivly (P5,D1)

We were tasked to find out about ways of communication with things like VOIP.as well as different types of communication with others on the web.

VOIP (voice over internet protocol) is a piece of software used to be able to use our phones and make calls over the internet rather than using your phone with a phone company this also works by plugging things like microphone and headphones to be able to communicate. an example of this type of software is Skype which gives you voice chat and video chat. some reasons companies want to use VOIP is that it is easier to manage and communicate to colleges and employees and also to lower the cost of the phone bills since it is mostly free to use VOIP.

Advantages
  • You can save money on your phone bill
  • You can use an existing phone connection
  • Calls are free no matter the distance
  • Calls can be made any where as long as you have a broadband connection
Disadvantages
  • Can't be used without power or internet connection
  • When using there may be times of silence while the data is being unscrambled
  • With emergency calls it is harder to locate you than on a phone
  • Microphones may be needed

3 different types of software for communicating effectively

Skype-Skype is a brand name that uses VOIP to let people to communicate to people using the internet they also let you use video chats however this only uses part of VOIP but for this you will need a webcam for the video part since VOIP only lets you broadcast your voice not an image this is quite cheep to use like if you are a subscriber to something like Skype to use and cost nothing no matter the distance.

Advantages
  • Cheep if you are a subscriber
  • Call across the world
Disadvantages
  • Internet needed
  • Need headphones and microphones to use and webcam for video chats
Email-Emailing people is a way of talking to people that doesn't need a instant response unlike instant messaging this is free but you will need to make a account with one of the brands that provide the service like Hotmail, Gmail and yahoo.

Advantages
  • Able to massage many people at once
  • No limit to how long the message needs to be
Disadvantages
  • Messages can be misinterpreted by people
  • Can be used to spread viruses

Instant messaging-this is a type of chatting where it is most like having a conversation with some one since it is instant an example of this is the chat function on Facebook to be able to use this It is free but it requires you to mostly make an account on something like Facebook or Google+.

Advantages
  • Send and receive messages in real time like a real conversation
  • It is free to use however you may need to make an account like Facebook
Disadvantages
  • People can make an account with the same name as some ones else and impersonate them
  • Can make people anti-social if they using instant messaging while they are with someone it person and ignoring them

Reviwing A Document To Amend (M2)

we were tasked to amend a document that was not the best it could be using styles to make the document much more reader friendly better formatted.

This is a document that I have amended to make it easier to read and look at: Style Document Amended

the reason that I have changed this document is to make it appropriate for all types of people to read like people who have dyslexia or eye problems to read much easier. the kind of things that I have changed is the font from times new roman to Calibri since people with dyslexia find it easier to read also it stays with the style making it look more professional. I have also made the text of the document 12 for the paragraphs, 16 for sub headings and 28 for the title people with dyslexia have problems seeing text which is smaller than 12 so this also makes it easier for them to read again the words have also be more spaced apart so the words are easier to distinguish form other words next to them I have also put numbers on the bottom set out like page X of X so you know how long the document is and of course what page you are on.

Evaluate written techniques (D1)

to evaluate written techniques we looked at the professional design document for the canceled PS2 game fallout brotherhood of steel 2 which was meant to be a Squeal the fallout brother hood of steel set in a world with a 1950 sci-fi environment and the design was based of the world from "mad max" the movie

type of document (fallout brotherhood of steel 2)

The things  this document did that make it look professional and nice looking is the water mark put on the back which keeps with the theme of the game they are trying to make making it a radioactive symbol also they have also used a picture that's is relevant to the game like pictures of guns they have also put it into paragraphs to make it easier to read and understand what is relevant to what along with the sub headings which separate the text about making it easy to make out and they have also used numbers for there pages so that it is easy to follow making it easy to maneuver to the page you want

Learning style (M3)

I am a visual learner which means I learn better from seeing things explained with pictures and diagrams

My learning style test
.

Learning Style Part 2

For this we had to do a team activity where we worked in twos following instructions which were picked out by our teacher I was paired up with Oliver who was a visual and kinetic learner while I am a visual learner so we were lacking the audio part. the task was to follow instructions to about cutting paper so that it would make a circle big enough to fit 3 people were in competition with the other teams and given a time limit of 10 minuets to finish it in the end me and Oliver won I think this worked since because we were both visual we could see from the picture provided what it was going to look like other styles should have done better like the team who was all of them however they finished second and cheated by tying there circle since they did not cut it right.

Type Of Learning Styles

Pragmatist- a pragmatist is a very task orientated person and keen to test things out in practise and do not tend to think outside the box when it comes to ideas or problems they like to do the most obvious answer if they had to build something they would try to find the fastest way to build the thing and may ask for help if they need it.

Reflector-a reflector is a person who thinks a lot over a problem and does not like to take risk and don't like to jump to conclusions and are not very assertive when working in groups and are very likely to procrastinate if they were going to build something they would be more likely to look at every thing in the box and think about how they go together.

Activist-an activist is a very enthusiastic learner and has a tendency to try something out before thinking about the out comes or thinking about other thinks and like to get thing done on the first time
and like to be the centre of attention if they were to build something they would like to jump in and learn as they go and work out problems as they come.

Theorist-a theorist is someone who like to think very logically about what they are doing and like to do things that are certain to work I would be less likely to do something if it is not rationally thought out for example if they were going to learn to build something they would be more likely to grab the instructions to figure out how rather than just jumping in.

My Learning Style

I am a reflector this means that I do not get that involved in group work and like to keep quite while I am working in a group and hold back what I think I also take a while when it comes to thinking of an ide or question I also don't take many risks with my work and are likely to procrastinate. but I am also like a pragmatist but it depends on the situation that I am in like with school work I like to get it done as fast as I can.

How Can It Aid Personal Development

being aware of you learning style can hinder you but also help you to since the way it hinders you will be that you know what you can do may try to stay within the boundaries of what a reflector is but you can also be more than one so that why you it can help you not to have to try to be a certain one it can also help you by making you aware of what your weaknesses are so you know what you will have to work on like contributing to groups it can also help you when if you try to learn something new you will know the best way to do that

Barriers (P3,M1)

we were takes to explore different types of barriers some of the barriers that were in the types and some of the solutions to them and some of my own barriers

There are many things that can effect communication these thing are called barriers for example:

Physical Barriers

There are things like physical barriers which for example are if the speaker or listener has a hearing problem this is a physical barrier to the communication this also means things like distance between the speaker and listener as well as background noise. to overcome one of these types of barriers are like if background noise is a problem just move to a different or have a room specifically for the purpose of interviewing people

language Barriers

This means stuff like wither the person speaking has something like a strong accent form another country or a strong areal accent which means that they speak English differently or English is there second language so they might use words differently or not fully understand what you are saying to them.to overcome one of the barriers like the person not being able to speak English very well since it may be their second language try to talk slower and use proper English when talking to them since that will be the words they most likely to have learnt

Perceptual Barriers

These are things like how you present your self for instance some one might be wearing something from there native country which they believe to be OK or something that there religion tells them to wear so to some people they might not look as professional as some one else.to over come one of these barriers is to come to the interview well dressed in something like a suit.

Cultural Barriers

This means things like the ethnic values that a certain values a religion have towards people or things as well as the age of a person so that the interviewer doesn't choose some one because there young this also applies to some gestures that people use which may be nice but could be seen differently like how some Japanese people won't shake hands but bow to each other or someone else. to overcome one of these barriers is to greet the person how they would if they want a handshake give it to them if they bow to you do the same it would also help to know what nationally the person you interview will be so you can be prepared

Mental/Emotional Barriers

Are things like if one of the speaker or listener has a mental disability or metal affliction like depression it could also mean if the person is tired or can get very stressed or stressed on the day there personality can also come in to this section as a barrier. to overcome one of these barriers you like tiredness you would want to make sure that you get to bed early the day before and get up at a time that give you enough time to fully wake up so you are not tired when you get to the interview.

My Barriers

Some barriers that I have is that I have is a physical problem of my illness which does stop me from being able to do things for the company I also have a problem with some terminology because I have some trouble trying to remember what they mean so if some one said some thing to me I would need a minute to understand it.

All of the barriers which I have mentioned would be a problem if you were going for a job in the game industry however some more than others like physical barriers will be more of a problem than maybe perceptual barriers

Effective communication (P2)

Effective communication is all about that the speaker and the listener both understand what is being said and listen to what is being said. For a task we had to go out and ask people if they had problems with their phone and record what we did in a power point (Problems with phones)

Writing Skills
To be able to communicate effectively you need to be able write what you want to get across with good writing skills these include things like correct spelling, good use of punctuation, structuring you work neatly and so it is easy to understand and only putting in what is relevant there is also no use of emoticons since it can show you to be less professional.

General Communication
To be able to have good communication you will need to have good general communication  skills this includes things like using the right terminology for the thing you are talking about so you appear to look professional and that you know what you are talking about also to be able to engage the audience so that they want to watch you and also being able to get you voice across to people so that they understand you by speaking loud and clearly.

Interpersonal skills
These are types of skills that we use all the time from communicating to people in a work environment to talking to friends in a laid back environment a type of interpersonal skill is non-verbal communication which is the use of face expressions and gestures that you use to get your ideas across and sometimes easier to understand since some people will be able to tell what you are saying just by how you move your hands and what expression you us.

Introduction

Past

the thing I have done in the past don't really have anything to do with gaming apart from the ICT course I did at GCSE and being a consumer of the gaming industry by being interested and have fun with what the produce.

Present

I chose this course because I thought it would be interesting and something I would enjoy for 2 years since I have no idea what I really want to do with my life.

Future

I have no idea of what I want to do in terms of a job or something I want to accomplish but  a job in the game industry would be very good.

Attributes valued by employers (P1)

Personal attributes valued by employers
personal attributes are essential for what employers since that will be what they are looking for like if you are going for a job as an animator they will be looking for if you are able to used certain programs and if what you have done is of a good enough quality fro what he/she is looking for.

There are certain things that an employer is looking for when it comes to giving some one a job and these are attributes there are 3 types of attributes which each mean different things for example:

A specific attribute is something that will be related to the job itself like experience. A specific attribute valued by employers is to be knowledgeable in your chosen job/field since this will help the employer know you can get the job done and be a valued member of the business another skill valued by employers are good working procedures like knowing what to do when there is a fire or how to keep the building secure

General attributes are skills that are personal to yourself like good time management generally your personal skills. A general skill valued by employers is good communication skills since they will need you to talk to others and he/she will need to know you can present the information correctly and with a good amount of accuracy another skill valued by employers is time management  since they will be able to trust you that everything they give you will be done on time and to a good quality.

Attitudes are how you approach the job and how you act about the job. A attitude valued by employers is determination since they will know that they will get good quality work from you at 110% effort another attitude valued by employers is leadership since in a environment where you are in charge of making a game or project the employer will know that you will make them some good money out of your leadership with your team.
